Yang Youlin is the former Chinese local government official
IMANI Africa President Franklin Cudjoe has reacted to the death sentence handed to former Chinese local government official Yang Youlin, drawing a comparison between how corruption cases are handled in China and Ghana.
In a social media post, Cudjoe suggested that individuals accused or convicted of corruption in Ghana often receive different treatment from those found guilty in China.
“Here, thieves can even negotiate to abscond, ask for toppings and sweeteners, and have their lawyers talking big silly grammar! You dey China anka you turn ghost! Plunderous thieves!!” he wrote.
Cudjoe’s comments followed reports that Yang Youlin, a 69-year-old former local government official from Nanjing, was sentenced to death by the Changzhou Intermediate People’s Court in Jiangsu Province after being convicted of running a corruption scheme between 1993 and 2023.
