Some residents in the Kumasi Metropolis locked themselves indoors to evade arrest when a sanitation enforcement team from the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), backed by military personnel, inspected homes over poor sanitation.

A video sighted by GhanaWeb captured the taskforce moving from house to house to inspect compounds as part of efforts to enforce sanitation regulations.

At one residence, the occupants refused to open the door despite repeated calls from the security personnel.

One of the military officers, who stood outside a window, called on those inside to come out but received no response.

"You cannot be inside forever," the officer said, insisting that the occupants were hiding in the room.

One of the occupants later came out and demanded that the taskforce produce a search warrant before entering the premises.

The officers, however, told him they were carrying out an official sanitation exercise on behalf of the KMA and dismissed his demand.

The young man was then questioned about the dirty condition of the compound.

He claimed he had been away from the house for some time and suggested he was unaware of the state of the surroundings.

The operation led to the arrest of several sanitation offenders across the metropolis.

Some residents, however, resisted the exercise, saying they did not know they were violating sanitation rules.

Others also claimed they had not heard earlier public announcements warning residents to keep their surroundings clean or face sanctions.
