Private legal practitioner, Kwame Akufo, has stated that changes to the Kristo Asafo Mission’s constitution are central to understanding the leadership questions that have emerged following the reading of Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo’s will.

Speaking to the media, Akufo said the will was signed before amendments were made to the church’s constitution.

“This will was dated and signed before the amendment of the Constitution,” he said.

According to him, Israel Kwadwo Safo Akofena was initially given a significant role by the founder.

“At the time that the will was written, Akofena was clearly a man who sat in the bowels of the man’s heart,” he stated.

Akufo said Akofena was later designated to exercise authority on behalf of the founder, but that arrangement was subsequently changed.

“It was the same gentleman who initiated a repeal of that constitutional provision, and Akofena was removed as designated leader,” he said.

He argued that the constitutional position at the time of Apostle Safo’s d3ath differed from what existed when the will was prepared.

“So by the time his father was dying, Akofena was not the designated leader of the church,” he stated.

Akufo added that some public commentary on the succession issue had overlooked those constitutional changes.

“It is unfortunate that people do not have the accurate information,” he said.
