A crime prevention education session organised for members of the Methodist Youth Fellowship at the Dome Circuit has generated discussion on social media after a Ghana Prisons Service officer stated that Ghanaian law recognises only sexual intimacy between a man and a woman.

In a video circulating online, the officer, who was addressing the youth fellowship on crime prevention and the country's legal framework, said any sexual act outside a relationship between a man and a woman amounts to what the law describes as "unnatural carnal knowledge".

"The only sexual act permissible under the law is the intimacy between a man and a woman. Anything outside of that amounts to unnatural carnal knowledge," the officer said.

The comments were made during an educational engagement intended to sensitise members of the church on legal issues and crime prevention.

The video, shared by SIKAOFFICIAL on X, has since attracted mixed reactions from social media users, with some supporting the officer's interpretation of the law while others questioned aspects of the explanation and called for broader legal clarification.

The Ghana Prisons Service had not publicly commented on the viral video at the time of filing this report.

Ghana's criminal laws contain provisions relating to "unnatural carnal knowledge", a subject that has remained at the centre of national debate in recent years amid wider discussions on sexuality, human rights and proposed legislation on LGBTQ+ issues.
