A man writing 'stop-work notice' on an incomplete building
Former Member of Parliament for Adentan, Kojo Adu Asare, has criticised local assemblies over their handling of development and flooding challenges, saying they often rely on issuing stop-work notices without providing proper plans for communities.
Speaking on Asempa FM, Adu Asare said local authorities need to take a more structured approach to managing communities instead of reacting after problems occur.
"All the assemblies know is to issue stop-work notices on buildings, but they have no proper plan for the communities," he said.
"We know what to do, but we won't do it, so I have no solution to offer anymore," he added.
The former MP also said citizens contribute to some of the challenges facing communities, alongside gaps in leadership at the local government level.
"Our contributions are also part of the problem and the lack of leadership at the various assembly levels," he said.
Adu Asare argued that leadership should not only be viewed as the responsibility of national authorities but should also exist within homes, churches and communities.
"We are concentrating leadership at the apex, meanwhile leadership is even in our homes, churches and communities," he stated.
