75 bank staff dismissed over fraud-related activities in 2025 - BoG report

Seventy-five staff members of banks and Specialised Deposit-Taking Institutions (SDIs) were dismissed in 2025 over their involvement in fraudulent activities.

The the figures are contained in a report published by the Bank of Ghana’s (BoG) Financial Stability Department.

Out of the 75 staff members dismissed in 2025, 44 cases, representing 59 percent, were linked to cash theft-related fraud.

It also found that the number of banks and SDI staff involved in fraudulent activities reduced from 365 in 2024 to 219 in 2025, representing a 40 percent decline.

The report further revealed that the number of staff dismissals in banks declined by 52 percent from the 155 recorded in 2024.

Among the 219 staff implicated, 139, representing 63 percent, were involved in cash theft and cash suppression.

The report found that fraud cases across Ghana’s financial sector increased significantly in 2025, rising from 16,733 cases in 2024 to 24,778 cases, representing a 48 percent increase.

The Bank of Ghana is therefore urging financial institutions, regulators, law enforcement agencies, and the public to work together to strengthen fraud prevention measures as digital financial services continue to expand.
