MIEG tracks monthly volume changes in economic activity
Ghana’s economy expanded by 4.7% in April 2026, according to the latest Monthly Indicator of Economic Growth (MIEG) released by the Ghana Statistical Service on Wednesday, July 8, 2026.
The MIEG index stood at 113.3 for the month, up from 108.2 recorded in April 2025.
Services led the pack, growing by 6.0% largely on the back of gains in Information and Communication.
Industry followed with 4.0% growth, driven mainly by mining and quarrying activity. Agriculture trailed at 1.7%, supported by the crops and livestock subsector.
Services also carried the most weight in the overall growth figure, contributing 61.7% of the 4.7% expansion.
Industry accounted for 29.9%, with agriculture making up the remaining 4.5%.
The MIEG tracks monthly volume changes in economic activity and is designed to give an early read on the direction of the economy ahead of the quarterly GDP release.
GSS says the figures are provisional and could be revised as more data comes in.The indicator is still classed as experimental, meaning the methodology will keep evolving.
The next release, covering May 2026, is expected on August 12.
