Dame drops habeas corpus application after Hanan's release

Godfred Yeboah Dame, lead counsel for former National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO) Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba, has withdrawn a habeas corpus application filed to secure his client’s release from custody.

The application, which sought an order compelling the Attorney General and the Bureau of National Intelligence (BNI) to produce Hanan before the court, was withdrawn following his release on the night of July 8, 2026.

Dame filed the habeas corpus application after Aludiba was detained without formal charges.

He argued that the authorities had neither charged his client with an offence nor filed any application before the court to justify his continued detention.

An Accra High Court had scheduled Friday, July 10, 2026, to hear the application challenging Hanan's detention.

Hanan was re-arrested by security personnel on July 4, 2026, at the Accra International Airport while attempting to travel to London for medical treatment.

The arrest came after the High Court had granted him permission on June 29, 2026, to travel for eye treatment and ordered the release of his passport.

The Attorney General’s Office explained that the re-arrest was linked to allegations that Hanan had used fraudulent means to attempt to access a frozen bank account.

According to Dame, the detention was unlawful and amounted to a breach of the court’s earlier order.

Hanan and his wife are facing multiple criminal charges, including alleged corruption-related offences and money laundering.
