Time management built my career - Justice Adjei

Supreme Court Justice Sir Dennis Dominic Adjei has credited disciplined time management as one of the key factors behind his professional achievements, urging young people, especially students, to make the most of every opportunity.

Speaking in an interview on GH One TV on Thursday July 9, 2026, as part of coverage marking the 150th anniversary of Ghana’s Supreme Court, the jurist and author of eight books said discipline in managing his time has shaped his entire career.

"I don't waste time. Any little time that I get, I make full use of it," he said.

He cited his own schedule as evidence of his commitment to productivity. After the interview, he was scheduled to supervise an examination. Rather than remain idle while candidates wrote their papers, he planned to use the time to read and write, taking only brief moments to check on the examination room.

Justice Adjei also serves as a Judge of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights and chairs the Independent Examinations Committee of the General Legal Council.

He said he avoids activities that consume time without creating meaningful value.

"I make sure that whatever is supposed to be done by me must be done, and done well," he said.

The judge added that his church activities remain the one fixed point in his schedule, a priority that nothing else can displace.

A devout Catholic and former chorister, Justice Adjei said he still enjoys singing but can no longer participate regularly in choir rehearsals due to the demands of his judicial duties. Reading and writing, however, remain constant parts of his routine.

"If you read, it helps you to understand things that are beyond you. And if you write, it improves your proficiency," he said.

He also revealed a lighter side of his personality, noting his interest in cartoons.

"I'm interested in cartoons. Every cartoon I watch, irrespective of whether it is for children or whatever, I enjoy it," he said.

The interview offered a rare insight into the discipline behind the success of one of Ghana’s most decorated jurists, highlighting his belief that talent alone does not build a career. Rather, diligence, discipline, and the deliberate use of time are essential ingredients for success.
