President Mahama joins day 2 of National Clean-Up Exercise at Alajo

President John Dramani Mahama on Saturday, July 11, 2026, joined the second day of the National General Clean-Up Exercise at Alajo in the Greater Accra Region, where he took part in desilting gutters and other sanitation activities aimed at promoting a cleaner environment.

The exercise formed part of the government's renewed commitment to improving sanitation, preventing floods, and encouraging citizens to actively participate in keeping their communities clean.

In a video shared by Tina News, President Mahama was seen interacting with participants and observing ongoing cleaning activities while teams worked to clear heavily silted gutters and collect refuse from affected areas.



President Mahama was seen working alongside sanitation officials, security personnel, volunteers, and residents as they cleared choked drains and removed waste from gutters in parts of Alajo, an area that has over the years experienced flooding during the rainy season due to clogged drainage systems.

His participation underscored the government's resolve to tackle sanitation challenges through both policy implementation and active community engagement.

Several personalities from Ghana's entertainment industry also joined the exercise to lend their support to the initiative. Actress Roselyn Ngissah, actress and television personality Zynnell Zuh, veteran actor Fred Amugi, and other public figures were spotted at the venue participating in the clean-up alongside residents and government officials.



Their presence drew attention from members of the public, with many commending them for using their influence to promote environmental cleanliness and civic responsibility.

The National General Clean-Up Exercise forms part of broader efforts by the government to address poor sanitation, reduce the incidence of flooding, and promote healthier communities across the country.

Authorities have repeatedly stressed that indiscriminate waste disposal remains one of the major causes of blocked drains and flooding, particularly during the rainy season.

Government officials have therefore urged Ghanaians to make sanitation a daily responsibility rather than limiting clean-up activities to designated exercise days. They have also encouraged local communities, institutions, and corporate bodies to support efforts aimed at maintaining clean surroundings.



The participation of the President and several well-known personalities has been viewed as an effort to inspire greater public involvement in the nationwide sanitation campaign and reinforce the message that maintaining a clean environment is a shared responsibility.
