King Kaku Aka III appeals to Chief Justice to investigate exhumation of queenmother's body

The Paramount Chief of the Awiaso Traditional Area, King Kaku Aka III, has made an urgent appeal to the Chief Justice, Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, to launch an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the exhumation of the body of the Queenmother of the Royal Nvavile Family, Obahyemaa Bulu Beneye, at Ekpu, near Half-Assini in the Jomoro Municipality of the Western Region.

The appeal follows the exhumation of the Queenmother's body by the Jomoro Municipal Assembly.

According to King Kaku Aka III, the Queenmother had already "slept with her ancestors" after her mortal remains were laid to rest with a befitting burial at her residence about 10 months ago.

The spokesperson for King Kaku Aka III, Egya Annor Kwasi on July 7, 2026, shared these concerns with the media at the Nzema Kotoko Kingdom in Awiaso, in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region.

Readers may recall that in the early hours of Monday, June 29, 2026, a group of persons, accompanied by armed security personnel, allegedly entered the residence of the Clan Head of the Royal Nvavile Family at Ekpu, Abusuakpanyinli Edward Eliason.

After the customary exchange of greetings, the group allegedly proceeded to the late Queenmother's burial site, where they met the family head, Abusuakpanyinli Edward Eliason.

According to the group, the mortal remains of the Queenmother, Obahyemaa Bulu Beneye of the Royal Nvavile Family, were to be exhumed pursuant to a court order.

The clan head alleged that the Queenmother's remains were subsequently transported to a hospital morgue without the involvement or consent of the Royal Nvavile Family.

Egya Annor Kwasi expressed shock and dismay over what he described as a violation of the court's directive, which had reportedly granted the family one week to prepare for the exhumation.

He therefore appealed to the Chief Justice to investigate the matter and ensure that justice and fairness are upheld.
