FAGE targets $15 billion in non-traditional exports by 2030

The Federation of Ghanaian Exporters (FAGE) says it is aiming to increase Ghana's non-traditional export earnings to $15 billion by 2030, following the sector's achievement of the government's 2027 target ahead of schedule.

Speaking in a media interview on July 12, 2026, ahead of the Ghana Horticulture Expo 2026, FAGE Chief Executive Officer Abdul-Karim Dubiure said the federation is collaborating with government and key stakeholders to strengthen the country's export infrastructure and improve agricultural value chains.

The upcoming expo, themed "From Soil to Sovereignty: Building Agricultural Self-Reliance," is scheduled to take place from September 3 to 5, 2026, at the Palms Convention Centre, La Palm Royal Beach Hotel.

According to Dubiure, FAGE is pursuing several strategic initiatives to address challenges facing exporters, particularly post-harvest losses and logistics.

"We are working on a number of projects, which include cold chain development across the country," he said.

He explained that the initiative will see cold storage facilities and warehousing established in farming regions to preserve fresh produce and reduce post-harvest losses.

The federation also plans to deploy refrigerated vehicles to transport produce efficiently from farm gates to processing centres and export points.

Dubiure further disclosed plans to develop an agro-processing and agro-economic zone in Tamale, designed to position northern Ghana as a direct export hub for agricultural produce.

"We will have an agro-processing and agro-economic zone where we can lift goods directly from Tamale Airport to Europe. It is even shorter than bringing them to Accra before flying them to Europe," he said.

On export performance, the FAGE CEO said the government had set a target of generating $5 billion in non-traditional export earnings by 2027. However, Ghana reached that milestone in 2025, two years ahead of schedule.

"When this new government came into power, they targeted that by 2027 we should bring in $5 billion from non-traditional exports. As of 2025, we had hit that $5 billion. So that's a success story," he said.

He expressed confidence that the country's longer-term objective of $10 billion in non-traditional exports by 2030 would also be surpassed.

Beyond the national target, Dubiure revealed that FAGE has set an even more ambitious internal goal of $15 billion in export earnings by 2030.

"Within our members, we say that by 2030 we should be looking at $15 billion," he noted.
