New Patriotic Party (NPP) communications team member and former Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCC), Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has reportedly been arrested by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) at the Accra International Airport over alleged corruption-related offences.

According to multiple reports and posts shared by members of the opposition NPP, including Kwesi Botchway Jnr, Aboagye was arrested upon his arrival from the United Kingdom on Sunday, July 12, 2026.

The reported arrest came just hours after Aboagye formally announced his intention to contest for the position of National Communications Director of the NPP.

'I'm running because I know weโ€™re coming back' - NPP's Miracles Aboagye declares

"Just hours after receiving overwhelming support on social media for his National Communications Director bid, Dennis Miracles Aboagye has reportedly been picked up by EOCO," Botchway wrote in a post on X on July 12, 2026.

The Economic and Organised Crime Office is said to be investigating allegations of financial mismanagement during Aboagye's tenure as Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation.

According to the NPP, Aboagye was arrested by EOCO officers with the assistance of personnel from the Ghana Immigration Service and taken into custody shortly after arriving in the country.

NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong has alleged that Aboagye's lawyers have been denied access to him and that his whereabouts remain unknown.

In a statement issued on the matter, Kodua said no formal charges had been brought against Aboagye since his arrest.

He described the development as an act of intimidation rather than a legitimate law enforcement process.

Before serving as Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation, Aboagye served as Municipal Chief Executive for Akuapem North and later as a presidential staffer under the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration.

As of the time of filing this report, EOCO has not issued an official statement confirming the arrest, the specific allegations under investigation, or the claims by the NPP regarding access to Miracles Aboagye.
