Reports of the arrest of Ghanaian media personality and parliamentary aspirant for the Afigya Sekyere East Constituency, Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah, went viral after chaos and violence disrupted the NPP constituency elections in the Ashanti Region.

Following the incident, a video sighted by GhanaWeb on July 13, 2026, and widely shared on social media shows one of the men allegedly arrested in connection with the violence being questioned by the police.

In the video, the suspect, whose identity was not disclosed, is seen seated in a police vehicle alongside other arrested individuals and surrounded by security personnel.

During the interrogation, officers questioned him about why he attended the election and his alleged involvement in the violence.

The suspect alleged that he and about 15 other men were brought to the election grounds by Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah.

However, he did not state the purpose of their presence at the venue.

"Okatakyie brought us here. We were about 15 guys in number and were housed in Agona. We came from Kenyase. I don't really know the house, but when I get there, I can show exactly where the house is," he said in Twi.

Earlier, GhanaWeb reported that Afrifa-Mensah had reportedly spent the night in police custody following his arrest on Sunday, July 12, 2026.

Videos circulating on social media showed an injured Afrifa-Mensah, with what appeared to be bloodstains on his shirt, being escorted by police officers to the Mampong Divisional Police Station.

His campaign team has alleged that he and some of his supporters were assaulted and shot at by police officers while attempting to serve a court notice.
