Ghana unveils 13-Star athletics squad for upcoming 2026 Commonwealth Games

Ghana Athletics Association has announced a 13-member squad to represent the country at the 2026 Commonwealth Games scheduled to take place in Glasgow, Scotland, from July 23 to August 2, 2026, in a press release issued on July 12,2026.

According to Ghana Athletics, the team comprises a blend of experienced international athletes and promising young talents, reflecting the federation's commitment to athlete development and long-term excellence.

"The Commonwealth Games provide a unique opportunity for Ghana's athletes to compete against some of the best competitors from across the Commonwealth while showcasing the country's growing strength in athletics," the statement said.

The federation added that Team Ghana heads into the competition with confidence, building on recent successes at continental and international championships.

The selected athletes are Deborah Acheampong, Anita Afrifa, Evonne Britton, Rose Yeboah, Joseph Amoah, Benjamin Azamati, Mustapha Bokpin, Isaac Botsio, Mammoudou Baba Seidu, Abdul-Rasheed Saminu, Abigail Abugire, Lovina Ewusi and James Dadzie.

Ghana Athletics noted that all selected athletes earned their places through outstanding performances and showed commitment, discipline and consistency throughout the qualification period.

"The selected athletes underwent a rigorous qualification process, demonstrating outstanding performances during national trials and recent competitions. Their inclusion reflects not only their athletic prowess but also their commitment to hard work and discipline," the statement added.
