CFF-Ghana calls for probe into 320kg methamphetamine shipment to Australia

The Community Focus Foundation Ghana (CFF-Ghana) has called on the government to launch an independent and transparent investigation into the export of about 320 kilograms of methamphetamine concealed in charcoal from Ghana to Australia, following the arrest of the alleged ringleader of the drug trafficking syndicate.

In a statement issued on July 11, 2026, it noted that the incident has once again placed Ghana under intense international scrutiny and threatens the country's reputation as a responsible member of the global community.

It urged the government "to strengthens anti-narcotics surveillance systems at Ghana's ports, airports and land borders by investing in modern detection technologies, improving intelligence sharing and enhancing institutional accountability".

Additionally, CFF Ghana said any officials within the security services, customs administration, port authorities or other state institutions found to have been involved should face the full rigors of the law.

" … government [should] constitute an independent, transparent and comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shipment. Any officials within the security services, customs administration, port authorities or other state institutions found culpable should face the full rigours of the law, regardless of their rank or political affiliation", it added.

The Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to promoting transparency, accountability and stronger governance in the country's fight against drug trafficking.
