GIMPA Alumni unveil plans for 400-seat auditorium, sports facilities

The GIMPA Alumni Association has unveiled plans to undertake additional infrastructure projects at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), including the construction of an Alumni Square, sports facilities, and an alumni merchandise shop.

According to the GIMPA Alumni Representative on Council, Nana Osei Tutu Agyemang, the newly commissioned reception is only the first of several projects aimed at enhancing the institution’s infrastructure and reinforcing its reputation as a centre of excellence.

He made the remarks on Monday, July 13, 2026, during the commissioning of the institution’s refurbished reception, which was funded by the GIMPA Alumni Association.

“GIMPA is one of the greatest institutions in the world, and when running an institution, the first thing you have to take into consideration is the reception, where you meet people and interact with them,” he said.

He explained that the association deliberately selected the reception as its first project because it creates the first impression for visitors.

“We thought it wise that the best thing we can give our alma mater is to make sure that the reception area where we meet people is put in an optimum state and really reflects the centre of excellence that GIMPA stands for. That is why we decided that the first project we tackle is the reception, where everybody comes to see how great our institution is,” he added.

Nana Osei Tutu Agyemang disclosed that the association is already working on additional initiatives to benefit both alumni and current students.

Among the planned projects is the establishment of an alumni shop where graduates can purchase branded GIMPA merchandise.

“What we plan to do now is to establish a shop for alumni where we’ll have paraphernalia such as T-shirts, bags, and other items so that alumni can come in and buy products from their alma mater,” he said.

He further revealed that discussions are ongoing with the institution’s management and governing council to develop an astroturf, a tennis court, and a gymnasium through a collaboration involving the alumni and GIMPA’s Middle-Level Management Association.

“They requested an astroturf, a tennis court, and a gym. We are at the stage of discussing with management and the council for approval,” he stated.

The Alumni Representative also announced plans for what he described as the association’s flagship project, an Alumni Square.

“Alumni Square will have a 400-capacity auditorium, offices, restaurants, and all the modern facilities expected of a reputable institution. That is the big project, and it is currently before the council awaiting approval,” he said.

He expressed optimism that, once approval is granted, work on the projects will commence within the coming weeks and months.

“In the next few weeks and months, you’ll see a lot of projects initiated by the alumni,” he said.

Nana Osei Tutu Agyemang also acknowledged the contributions of previous alumni representatives, saying their ideas, guidance, and professional networks have played a crucial role in advancing the association’s development agenda.

“I can boldly and confidently say that the previous alumni representatives have been helpful. They always come with ideas and the networking we need to build these projects, and that’s exactly what we are doing,” he added.
