Supreme Court Judge details new strategy to fast-track cases

Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Richard Adjei-Frimpong, says the judiciary is introducing technological reforms to address administrative bottlenecks that contribute to delays in Ghana’s legal system.

Speaking on Asempa FM, he explained that many court proceedings are slowed by manual paperwork and difficulties in serving legal documents to parties involved in cases. “Some of the delays are about paperwork.

Everything is put on paper, then a lawyer processes it before the person is served, and sometimes locating the person to serve is difficult,” he said.

Justice Adjei-Frimpong noted that these procedural challenges often prolong litigation even when the courts are ready to hear cases.

He, however, indicated that reforms are underway to modernise the system. “We are making some changes to involve technology to solve all these problems,” he stated.

The Supreme Court judge also observed that certain categories of cases, particularly divorce proceedings, naturally require time because the law encourages reconciliation before marriages are dissolved.

He explained that this approach has, in some instances, resulted in couples resolving their differences and preserving their marriages.

According to Justice Adjei-Frimpong, the combination of digital reforms and expanded judicial infrastructure will help improve efficiency while preserving the fairness and integrity of Ghana's justice system.
