‘We have talent, but our preparation for the World Cup wasn't the best’— Kofi Adams

Sports Minister and Member of Parliament for Buem Constituency, Kofi Adams, has admitted that Ghana's preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup fell short despite the abundance of talent in the Black Stars squad.

Speaking on Joy News while reflecting on Ghana's tournament exit, Adams said the national team possessed quality players but lacked the ideal preparation needed to compete at the highest level.

"Let's admit that we have talent, but the preparation towards this tournament wasn't the best situation," he said.

According to the Minister, uncertainty over the national team's technical leadership affected Ghana's build-up to the tournament, noting that the appointment of the head coach came too late to properly implement a playing philosophy and structure.

"Of course, we had challenges with the technical side, and many of us spoke about it. Many were calling for an early decision on who should manage the national team. Admittedly, we made a decision, but it was taken a bit late. That did not offer the coach the opportunity to transmit what we call a structure to the team."

He acknowledged that while the coach inherited a talented group of players, there was insufficient time to mould them into a cohesive unit capable of competing consistently at the World Cup.

"The coach had talented players, but he just had to manage them with a certain strategy, and that alone can't work for you to stay at this level of competition,” he added.

His comments come after Ghana’s disappointing journey at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, failed to meet expectations, leaving many supporters who had hoped for a deeper run in the tournament disappointed.
