Argentina head into their FIFA World Cup semi-final against England on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, with just one change to the side that defeated Switzerland in the quarter-finals, as Giuliano Simeone comes into the starting line-up in place of Rodrigo De Paul.

Emiliano Martínez retains his place in goal behind the familiar back four of Nahuel Molina, Cristian Romero, Lisandro Martínez and Nicolás Tagliafico, the same defensive unit that kept Switzerland at bay in the last eight.

In midfield, Leandro Paredes, Enzo Fernández and Alexis Mac Allister continue their partnership, providing balance and control, while Simeone joins the attack in a wider role.

Up front, Lionel Messi and Julián Álvarez once again lead the line as Argentina chase a place in the World Cup final.

England manager Thomas Tuchel has also made two changes to his starting XI. Reece James returns at right-back, replacing Ezri Konsa, while Djed Spence starts at left-back ahead of Nico O’Riley.

Jordan Pickford keeps his place between the posts, with Marc Guéhi and John Stones continuing their partnership at the heart of defence.

In midfield, Declan Rice and Elliot Anderson are tasked with controlling the tempo, while Morgan Rogers comes into the side in place of Noni Madueke.

Rogers joins Jude Bellingham and Anthony Gordon in the attacking midfield positions behind captain Harry Kane, who once again leads England’s frontline.
