Some dignitaries who were present at the launch of the 2026 PRURide event
The 7th edition of the PRURide cycling event was launched at the University of Ghana VIP Room on July 14, 2026, with stakeholders from sporting and security agencies present. The event is themed “Pedal for Health. Ride for a Greener Future.”
The first event, scheduled for August 22, 2026, at the University of Ghana, will be a fan ride open to everyone, cycling enthusiasts, elite riders, families, groups, and children. Registration is free on *778*001#, and the ride begins at 8 a.m., with participants set to be rewarded.
The main event will take place on September 6, 2026, at the Borteyman Sports Complex. This professional race will start at 12 p.m., and cycling fans are encouraged to attend. Winners for both male and female divisions will receive cash prize of GH¢15,000.

Speaking at the launch, Jane Dornukuor Mingle, Chief Executive Officer of Prudential Life Insurance Ghana, the main partner of the event, reaffirmed her organization’s commitment to supporting cycling and inspiring people.
“The excitement I have today, welcoming all these partners to the launch of the 7th edition of PRURide, is immense. It has grown into a powerful symbol of who we are at Prudential Life Insurance Ghana and what we stand for. What began as a simple cycling event has evolved into a movement that inspires healthy lifestyles, stronger communities, and a more sustainable future. At Prudential, our purpose is to be a partner for every life and a protector for every future,” she said.

Cycling promotes physical and mental health while serving as an environmentally friendly mode of transportation. The Secretary-General of the Ghana Cycling Association, Shaban Mohamed, commended Prudential Life Insurance Ghana for its immense support and expressed optimism about strengthening the partnership.
“Our partnership with Prudential has grown into a strong and impactful relationship for our federation and cyclists. We look forward to elevating PRURide into the UCI calendar, which will create opportunities for our cyclists to earn international ranking points and showcase Ghana as a premier cycling destination in Africa,” he noted.
Dr. Austin W. Luguterah, Director of the University of Ghana Sports and Wellness Directorate, disclosed that his outfit is working to establish a cycling club and praised Prudential for its support.
“The University of Ghana is interested in starting a cycling club because our students are enthusiastic about learning new sports. With Prudential behind us, we believe we can groom talent from this level into professional cycling,” he said.
The President of the Ghana Olympic Committee, Richard Kofi Akpokavie, emphasized that the competition helps nurture talent to represent Ghana internationally.
“Cyclists need regular competitions to test their readiness for international events. This initiative is vital, and I encourage organizers to take it further by sponsoring athletes to represent Ghana abroad,” he said.
The Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service urged participants to comply with road traffic rules, including the Road Traffic Act 63 of 2004 and Road Traffic Regulation 2012, LI 21/18.
