Govt launches Ghana Labour Exchange Programme to boost youth employment

The Minister of Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo, has reaffirmed government’s commitment to creating decent jobs, promoting entrepreneurship, and enhancing employability for young people through strategic partnerships with development agencies.

He made the remarks at the official launch of the Ghana Labour Exchange Programme, which marks a significant step toward expanding employment opportunities and empowering Ghanaian youth.

The initiative is a collaboration between the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment, the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment, and private partner Nayt Consult Limited which aims at creating legal, safe and dignified work pathways for Ghanaian youth.

The Deputy Ambassador of Germany to Ghana, Sivine Jansen, underscored the programme’s international dimension, noting that the Ghana-Germany Labour Exchange initiative is designed to foster “brain circulation” rather than brain drain. She highlighted Germany’s ongoing work with Ghana on a Global Skills Partnership in the health sector, aimed at creating pathways for health professionals while strengthening training capacities locally.

Representatives from Nayt Consult Limited also emphasized the programme’s potential to generate job opportunities for Ghanaian youth, positioning the initiative as a practical solution to unemployment challenges.

The Labour Exchange Programme is expected to serve as a platform for connecting young people to decent work, while building skills that align with both domestic and international labour market needs.
