Investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni has reminded Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga of his previous efforts to demand accountability from the Bank of Ghana while in opposition, asking why his current position appears different.

In an open letter, Manasseh recalled that Ayariga had previously pursued information from the central bank through Right to Information requests and publicly challenged its leadership.

“In the Akufo-Addo administration, you were at the forefront of demanding accountability from the Bank of Ghana Governor, writing RTI requests and publishing your findings,” he wrote.

“You even threatened to drag them to the OSP for investigation because they failed to give you some of the information. What has changed?”

Manasseh also referred to Parliament’s recent decision not to proceed with a motion to probe the Goldbod deal, questioning whether it reflected a shift from the governing party’s stated principles.

“Before yesterday’s incident, the majority you lead in Parliament also stopped the motion to probe the Goldbod deal,” he noted.

“Is this the new creed of a party founded on probity, transparency and accountability?” he added.

He further cautioned that political disagreements should not lead to decisions that could weaken accountability in the future.

“A quest for bragging rights should not push you to set precedents that will hurt governance in the future,” he wrote.
