Here is when TUSAAG will resume indefinite strike

The Technical University Senior Administrators' Association of Ghana (TUSAAG) has announced the resumption of its suspended indefinite strike, citing the government's failure to pay a promised one-time research allowance and fully implement a negotiated interim allowance agreement.

The association said the decision was taken during a National Council meeting held on July 9, 2026, after what it described as prolonged delays in honouring commitments made by the government.

In a statement dated July 13, 2026, and addressed to the Minister of Education, TUSAAG said it had no option but to resume the industrial action it suspended on December 22, 2025, following the minister's intervention.

The strike is scheduled to resume on Monday, July 20, 2026.

The statement, signed by National President, Stanley Akamiri Abopaam and General Secretary, Jeremiah Awini, was copied to the Ministers of Finance and Employment and Labour Relations, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), the National Labour Commission (NLC), and the Vice-Chancellors, Ghana (VCG).

According to the association, the strike will continue until the outstanding research allowance is paid and concerns over the implementation of the interim allowance agreement are resolved.

TUSAAG said the Minister of Education had assured its leadership in December 2025 that the outstanding one-time research allowance would be paid by March 30, 2026.

Why TUSAAG has declared an indefinite strike

When that deadline passed without payment, the association said another meeting was held on March 31, 2026, during which the minister requested an extension until the end of April.

"As at July 13, 2026, the one-time research allowance remains unpaid with no indication as to when payment will be effected. This has created the impression of a seeming lack of urgency on the part of the relevant stakeholders to resolve the matter," the statement said.

The association said it accepted the extension request in good faith and postponed the resumption of its strike to avoid disrupting academic and administrative activities in the technical universities. However, it said the continued delay had left it with no choice but to reactivate the industrial action.

TUSAAG also raised concerns about the implementation of an interim allowance agreement signed with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission on April 22, 2026.

Under the agreement, the existing Market Premium and Non-Basic Allowance were to be consolidated and increased by 40 per cent, with effect from April 1, 2026, pending the conclusion of negotiations on their Conditions of Service.

The association, however, said the Ministry of Finance later unilaterally revised the implementation date to July 1, 2026, without explanation, describing the move as inconsistent with the agreement reached by the negotiating parties.
