The Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr Johnson Pandit Asiama, has called for collective action to build a digital-forward financial system driven by innovation to improve the welfare and prosperity of Ghanaians.

Speaking at the Financial Architecture Summit 2026 in Accra on Tuesday, July 15, 2026, Dr Asiama said achieving that goal would require early collaboration among regulators, financial institutions, technology providers and consumers.

"It also requires institutions themselves to carry their share of the responsibility," he said.

The BoG Governor noted that the central bank is shifting from a traditional supervisory approach to one that embraces innovation and strengthens the resilience of the broader financial ecosystem.

"Our regulatory philosophy is therefore evolving from one that focuses primarily on institutional supervision to one that increasingly considers ecosystem resilience," he said.

According to Dr Asiama, effective supervision should extend beyond monitoring the condition of individual financial institutions to understanding the interconnected systems on which they depend.

"Supervision must therefore consider not only the condition of individual institutions, but also the dependencies that connect them. This philosophy has shaped our work in three priority areas," he added.

He said the evolving regulatory approach is intended to support a more resilient, innovative and inclusive financial system capable of meeting the country's future development needs.
