Felipe Melo blasts Thomas Tuchel after England's World Cup exit

Former Brazil midfielder Felipe Melo has launched a scathing attack on England head coach Thomas Tuchel following the Three Lions’ elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, accusing the German tactician of lacking tactical flexibility.

Speaking after England’s defeat ended their hopes of winning their first World Cup title since 1966, Melo questioned Tuchel’s squad selection and claimed the coach overlooked creative players who could have changed games.

“England doesn’t have variety in their game,” Melo said.

“Now I understand why the cowardly coach, Thomas Tuchel, left quality players like Phil Foden out.”

The former Brazilian international argued that Tuchel relied on players with similar styles, leaving England without enough options to adapt when they faced challenging moments during the tournament.

“Why? To bring more players that play one way,” Melo continued. “When England needed to change their way of playing, they did not find solutions.”

England’s World Cup campaign ended in the semi-finals, sparking widespread debate over Tuchel’s tactical decisions and squad selection.

The omission of Manchester City forward Phil Foden has emerged as one of the major talking points following the team’s elimination.
