The Ranking Member of Parliament's Economy and Development Committee and Member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has claimed that an opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament will be arrested next week.
According to him, the NPP has received information indicating that the ruling government intends to arrest one of its MPs.
Speaking in an interview on Movement TV on, July 16, 2026, while discussing the recent arrests of politically affiliated individuals, he alleged that the planned arrest would take place in the coming days.
"They have told us that next week they will arrest one of the NPP MPs. Write it down today and when it happens, we will talk about it next week," he said.
Oppong Nkrumah further accused the ruling government of using arrests to intimidate people, particularly politically exposed persons in the country.
Meanwhile, the General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Kodua Frimpong, has cautioned the government and the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) against what he describes as the arbitrary arrest and intimidation of opposition members, warning that such actions could set a dangerous precedent for Ghana's democracy.
Speaking in an interview on Citi FM on Tuesday, July 15, following the recent arrest of the party's Director of Communications, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, Kodua alleged that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government has made it a pattern to target members of the opposition since assuming office.
"For us as a political party, we are not surprised by the conduct of this government. It has been their modus operandi since they came into government on 7th January 2025, whereby they take delight in arresting our members capriciously and arbitrarily," he said.
He warned that the governing party should be mindful that political power is temporary.

"I've always said that the NDC government needs to tread cautiously. Power is transient, and no condition is permanent. If the NDC is establishing that the way they are arresting members of the New Patriotic Party has become the established norm, then so be it. The tables will turn one day," he stated.
Dennis Miracles Aboagye was arrested by EOCO upon his arrival at Kotoka International Airport as part of investigations into the alleged disappearance of GH¢55 million linked to the Youth Employment Agency (YEA).
