Dr Ayew Afriye not interested in NPP running mate slot - Wontumi

Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Bosiako, has denied reports suggesting that Dr Ayew Afriye is working extremely hard to be considered for the running mate slot in the NPP.

According to him, the reports are lies from the pit of hell and must be received with the contempt they deserve.

To him, the legislator has not made it known publicly or privately that he wants that position, indicating that the responsibility solely rests on the shoulders of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

Chairman Wontumi was speaking on Accra-based Asempa FM when he made this known.

“They are lies; he has not said it anywhere, nor has he even discussed it with me privately. Dr Ayew Afriye was the one who helped me settle my problems with my big brother Napo.

"The responsibility of choosing a running mate rests with Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, and that is all. People may have an interest, but it is up to Dr Bawumia to choose who he wants,” he said when asked if Ayew Afriye was nursing the ambition.

The flagbearer of the NPP, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, is yet to name a running mate for the 2028 elections. Some schools of thought are of the view that he should maintain his 2024 running mate, while some are also of the view that he must be changed because he contributed zero to the fortunes of the NPP in the 2028 elections.
