The Ghana Police Service has reportedly arrested Prince Aboagye, a 38-year-old National Democratic Congress (NDC) Branch Organiser in the Agona West Constituency of the Central Region, over alleged offensive and defamatory comments he made about former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia on social media.
In a viral video circulating online, Prince Aboagye is seen in handcuffs alongside the video in which he allegedly used abusive and defamatory language against Dr Bawumia, who is the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.
In the video, Aboagye allegedly accused Dr Bawumia of murder, theft and engaging in extramarital affairs with married women.
He is heard saying, "He is a thief and killed his own close associate he used to walk with. He has been sleeping with people's wives."

His arrest comes shortly after the sentencing of Ghanaian TikToker Camilla Alhassan, who was jailed for one year by the Accra Circuit Court after pleading guilty to charges of offensive conduct and publishing false news.
The ruling was delivered on July 16, 2026, after Alhassan admitted to sharing videos falsely alleging, without evidence, that President John Dramani Mahama buried 32 cows as part of rituals to secure victory in the 2024 general election.
Reacting to the judgment, her lawyer, Kwadwo Gyamfi Bonsu, said the court dismissed the charge of electronic abuse, ruling that it lacked jurisdiction to determine that offence.
However, the court found her guilty of offensive conduct and publishing false news and sentenced her to one year in prison.
According to the lawyer, the defence pleaded for a more lenient sentence, but the court held that the increasing number of similar offences required a punishment that would serve as a deterrent.
Camilla Alhassan's arrest and prosecution followed the circulation of the videos on social media. During an earlier hearing, the court also directed that she undergo a pregnancy test before sentencing.
