Here's the latest update on the Sky Train case

Former Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF) Chief Executive Officer, Solomon Asamoah, and former Board Chairman, Prof Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, are yet to file their defence in the ongoing Sky Train trial.

The update was disclosed by former Deputy Attorney General, Dr Justice Srem-Sai, in a Facebook post on Saturday, July 18, 2026.

He said the period within which the accused persons are expected to submit their defence or witness statements will expire next week.

According to him, the prosecution has not received any witness statements from either of the two accused persons.

“Two weeks ago, the High Court dismissed the accused persons’ submission of no case in The Republic v Solomon Asamoah & Another (the Sky Train trial). The Court asked them to open their respective defences, if they so desire.

“Next week, the time for filing a defence or the accused persons’ witness statements will lapse. Meanwhile, our attorneys are yet to receive a witness statement from the accused persons,” he stated.

The development follows a recent decision by an Accra High Court dismissing a submission of no case filed by the accused persons.

The court ruled that the prosecution had presented sufficient evidence for the two men to respond to the charges and directed them to open their defence if they wished to do so.

The case concerns a US$2 million payment made by GIIF in 2019 for an equity stake in a project development company connected to the proposed Accra Sky Train project.

The prosecution alleges that the payment was made without the necessary board approval and that the project was never executed, resulting in financial loss to the state.

Both Solomon Asamoah and Prof Ameyaw-Akumfi have denied the allegations.
