A tanker believed to be carrying naphtha, a highly combustible product, has caught fire at Kpone Barrier in the Greater Accra Region.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) deployed six fire tenders from the Free Zones, Tema Industrial Area and Motorway fire stations to the scene to contain the blaze.

In an update issued on July 20, 2026, the GNFS said the fire had been brought under control and confined from spreading further, while firefighters continue efforts to completely extinguish it.

It further disclosed that one firefighter sustained burns while working to put out the flames and had been rushed to the Tema General Hospital for immediate medical attention.

"One firefighter at the scene has sustained some burns and is being rished to Tema General Hospital for Immediate medical care," GNFS said.

The Service said the incident was officially under control as of 12:55 pm, adding that there was no further danger to surrounding areas.

“Fire has been confined from further spread as firefighting is still underway to totally extinguish the fire,” the GNFS stated.

The cause of the fire and the extent of damage are yet to be established.
