NSA received only two World Cup slots, not 100 – Yaw Ampofo Ankrah

Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, has confirmed that the Authority officially received only two ticket allocations from the Ministry of Sports and Recreation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, dismissing reports that it was allocated 100 slots.

Speaking to GhanaWeb in an interview on July 20, 2026, Ampofo Ankrah addressed claims circulating on social media, describing them as completely false.

He explained that the NSA's allocation consisted of one ticket for himself and one for the Board Chairman.

"There was a blogger who claimed the NSA got 100 slots. I had to correct him because it is simply not true," he said.

"The NSA got one slot, I got one slot, and my chairman got one slot. Officially, the National Sports Authority received only two slots, and anyone can verify that."

He said he challenged the blogger to verify the facts rather than rely on speculation, stressing that transparency and fact-checking remain essential in sports journalism.

"I told him to do the necessary checks if he claims to be a journalist or blogger. This isn't a secret," he added.

The NSA Director-General urged media practitioners to prioritise investigative journalism instead of spreading unverified information, noting that open communication helps prevent misinformation.

Ampofo Ankrah also disclosed that reports on ticketing, accommodation and transportation arrangements for the World Cup are yet to be submitted by the officials responsible for those areas.

According to him, the reports will first be presented to the Minister for Sports and Recreation before being reviewed by the committee established to oversee Ghana's World Cup campaign.
