Registered mobile money accounts stood at 85 million
Mobile money continues to expand its role in Ghana’s financial sector, with transaction values reaching GH¢492.91 billion in June 2026, according to the Bank of Ghana’s Summary of Economic and Financial Charts.
The data released on July 22, 2026, shows that Ghana recorded 954 million mobile money transactions during the period, highlighting the growing reliance on digital platforms for payments, transfers, and everyday financial activities.
The growth of the sector is also reflected in its expanding user base. Registered mobile money accounts stood at 85 million, while active accounts reached 26 million as of June 2026.
Beyond users, the agent network supporting mobile money services has also grown significantly, with 1016 thousand registered agents and 546 thousand active agents recorded during the period.
The figures show the increasing importance of mobile money in promoting financial inclusion, particularly for individuals and businesses that may have limited access to traditional banking services.
However, the growth of mobile money also places the need for stronger consumer protection, cybersecurity measures, and digital financial literacy.
As more Ghanaians rely on mobile-based financial services, stakeholders continue to stress the importance of protecting users against fraud and ensuring the sector’s sustainability.
The Bank of Ghana has recently cautioned users to remain vigilant, emphasizing the need to distinguish between genuine service alerts and fraudulent messages designed to facilitate financial loss.
The regulator noted that awareness remains the most effective defense against such manipulative tactics.
