'I don't want to lose 50% of my assets' – Ibrahimovic on why he is not married

Former Sweden and AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has offered a humorous but candid explanation for why he has never married his long-time partner, Helena Seger, saying he does not want to risk losing half of his assets.

Speaking to Piers Morgan about his family life, the football icon joked that concerns over his wealth are one of the reasons he has remained unmarried despite spending more than two decades with Seger, with whom he shares two sons.

"Because I don't want to lose fifty percent. I don't have a wife, I have two boys," he said jokingly.

The 44-year-old revealed that although the couple has never tied the knot, he once proposed to Seger. However, it was Helena who turned down the offer.

"I have asked her to marry me; she said no. She is strong. This was a couple of years ago. I told her, after twenty years you deserve to be married to me, but she said she doesn't have to marry me to be with me,” he recalled.

Rather than feeling disappointed by the rejection, Ibrahimovic admitted it made him admire her even more.

"It's cool because if you do that you gain more respect from me. Because I don't have to win all the time,” he said.

Asked whether he would propose again, the former Barcelona, Inter Milan, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United forward insisted that opportunity has passed.

"No, she had one chance. She won't get a second chance. But she has two boys from me, so that's even better than getting married,” he added.

Earlier in the interview, Ibrahimovic also reflected on the couple's relationship, revealing that the 11-year age gap played a significant role in helping them build a lasting bond.

He credited Seger for seeing his potential long before he became one of football's biggest stars, describing her patience and belief in him as key reasons they are still together today.
