Police detail how driver allegedly conspired with armed gang to rob his boss

The Ghana Police Service has detailed how a driver, who was transporting his boss to purchase cattle, allegedly conspired with an armed gang to rob him on the Portor-Gurumpe Highway.

According to a police statement issued on July 21, 2026, 24-year-old Samad Issahaka allegedly contacted his accomplices after realizing that his employer was carrying a large sum of money for the cattle purchase.

The statement said personnel on duty at the Portor Police Barrier under the Kintampo Police Division received intelligence that a robbery was taking place a few metres away from the barrier on the Portor-Gurumpe Highway.

“A team of police personnel swiftly responded and moved to the scene. Upon arrival, the suspects numbering about four fled into the bush.

However, the team arrested Abdul Sadat Ali, 24, the driver of a Toyota Voxy with registration number AS 1541-25.

“During preliminary interrogation, the driver mentioned Samad Issahaka, 24, driver of a Kia Rhino with registration number AS 7337-23, as part of the robbery gang. Police subsequently arrested him,” the statement said.

The police further indicated that the suspects allegedly used toy guns to carry out the robbery and made away with GH¢300,000 in cash.

“Further investigations revealed that Yahaya Seidu, 35, owner of the Kia Rhino, had instructed his driver to convey him to Buipe to purchase cattle.

“The driver, knowing that his boss was carrying money, allegedly conspired with five others to rob them on the highway. Armed with a toy pistol, the suspects trailed the Kia Rhino and its occupants, caught up with them after the Portor Police Barrier, and robbed them of GH¢300,000.00 in cash,” the statement added.

The police said personnel from the Counter Terrorism Unit, together with the local patrol team, pursued the fleeing suspects into the bush and arrested four more individuals: Abdul Rahman Mashud, 21, Asigri Avoka, 25, Awini Stephen, 19 and Faisal Salifu, 26.

The statement added that a search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of the full amount of GH¢300,000 allegedly stolen from the victim.

During interrogation, the suspects allegedly admitted that they had trailed the Kia Rhino from Offinso in the Ashanti Region and carried out the robbery at Portor in the Bono East Region after receiving information from Samad Issahaka.

All six suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations.
