2026 Mid-Year Budget Review: Pay contractors - Minority tells Ato Forson

The Minority in Parliament has stated that it expects Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson to use the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review to account for key government programmes instead of announcing new commitments.

First Deputy Minority Whip and MP for Tolon, Habib Iddrisu, said the minister should explain the status of initiatives including the 24-hour economy policy, the Women’s Development Bank, the Nkoko Nkitinkiti programme and the “One, Three, Three” initiative.

“What Ghanaians are expecting of him in the statement is to state clearly and pay Ghanaian contractors. Ghanaian contractors have not been paid, they are suffering, there is no money in the system,” he said.

He argued that many of the government’s flagship programmes remain unfulfilled.

“The jobs that they promised Ghanaian youth, including NDC youth, is only on paper,” he said.

Iddrisu added, “The 24-hour economy, ‘Yamutu’. The Women’s Bank, ‘Yamutu’. 133, ‘Yamutu’. Paying contractors, ‘Yamutu’.”

According to the Minority, the government should demonstrate progress on its commitments before seeking Parliament's approval for any additional financial support.
