Profile of newly appointed Kotoko coach Eric Tinkler

Experienced South African tactician Eric Tinkler has been appointed head coach of Asante Kotoko to lead the team in the 2026/2027 Ghana Premier League season.

With the Porcupine Warriors having gone trophyless in recent seasons, he has been tasked with winning laurels and restoring the pride of the club, as officials and fans grow increasingly frustrated.

Born on July 30, 1970, and raised in South Africa, Tinkler also obtained his educational qualifications in the country.

The former Bafana Bafana midfielder, who earned 45 caps for South Africa, brings more than a decade of coaching experience in the South African Premier Soccer League.

He captained the national team at the 2002 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and played for clubs in Europe, South Africa, and other parts of the world.

Tinkler began his coaching career by obtaining a CAF A License and has since built over 30 years of elite football experience as both a player and manager.

He has previously managed Orlando Pirates, SuperSport United, Cape Town City, Chippa United, Maritzburg United, and most recently Sekhukhune United, before leaving the Limpopo-based side in April 2026 to take over the Ghanaian giants.

Across those spells, he lifted three major trophies as head coach: the Nedbank Cup with Orlando Pirates, and the Telkom Knockout with both Cape Town City and SuperSport United.

In addition, the South African tactician achieved notable success, including a runner-up finish in the CAF Champions League with Orlando Pirates and another runner-up finish in the CAF Confederation Cup with SuperSport United.
