Millions of fans sign petition to ban Argentina from World Cup

An online petition calling for Argentina’s national team to be permanently barred from participating in the FIFA World Cup has garnered 23,316,108 signatures.

According to reports by RMC and Eurosport, the petition titled “Argentina Out” has drawn support from over 170 countries, making it one of the most widely circulated petitions in history.

The organizers accused FIFA and match officials of favoring Argentina and captain Lionel Messi in crucial decisions that allegedly helped them win matches during the 2026 World Cup.

“Why should the rest of the teams play in the tournament if the winner is known in advance? Exclude Argentina from the World Cup and give everyone a fair chance,” the petition text read.

Despite the massive publicity, FIFA did not respond to the demand, nor did it influence any decisions regarding the South American team.

The Albiceleste faced criticism over perceived referee bias, particularly in their comeback victory against Egypt.

After Ferran Torres’ extra-time goal helped Spain eliminate the defending champions, the petition organizers expressed gratitude to the European side, stating: “FIFA ignored us, but Spain kept its promise… thank you Spain.”

Nevertheless, the petition will not affect Argentina’s participation in future international tournaments, as football’s governing bodies have not heeded the calls.
