About 950,000 Ghanaians moved out of poverty in one year - Ato Forson

Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has stated that about 950,000 Ghanaians moved out of multidimensional poverty within a year, describing it as one of the key social gains recorded by the economy.

Presenting the 2026 Mid-Year Fiscal Policy Review in Parliament, Dr Forson said multidimensional poverty, which measures deprivation in areas such as education, health, living conditions and employment, declined from 24.9 percent in the third quarter of 2024 to 21.9 percent over the same period in 2025.

“This simply means that about 950,000 Ghanaians moved out of multi-dimensional poverty in just one year,” he said.

“Behind these statistics are the hundreds of thousands of families who now enjoy better living conditions and greater hope for the future.”

The Finance Minister also reported improvements in the labour market, saying unemployment declined from 13.7 percent in the first three quarters of 2024 to 12.8 percent during the same period in 2025.
