'Look at your size!' - Mahama Ayariga taunts Afenyo-Markin

Majority Leader in Parliament, Mahama Ayariga, clashed with Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin during the debate on the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review.

In a video shared on X and sighted by GhanaWeb on July 22, 2026, Mahama Ayariga, while making his submission on the floor of Parliament, took a swipe at the Minority Leader over the size of the NPP caucus.

According to Mahama Ayariga, there was no justification for him to be allocated the same speaking time as Afenyo-Markin, given the numerical strength of the Majority in Parliament.

He argued that he speaks on behalf of about 189 Members of Parliament and, therefore, should not be allotted the same amount of time for debate as the Minority Leader.

“The Minority Leader thinks that he should take the same time as myself. I speak for 189 people. You speak for how many people? How many are there? How can a person who speaks for 189 share the same time as a person who speaks for 87?” he said.

Mahama Ayariga further mocked Afenyo-Markin, saying he should consider the size of the Minority Caucus before making such demands.

“How does that happen? Be measured in terms of what you ask for. Look at your size when you are asking for material,” he added.
