Watch team Ghana's colourful entrance at Commonwealth Games opening ceremony

Team Ghana proudly showcased the nation’s rich culture during the opening ceremony of the 2026 Commonwealth Games, hosted in Glasgow, Scotland, on July 23, 2026.

The entire contingent was clad in traditional smocks designed with Ghana’s national colors, red, gold, and green, symbolizing cultural pride.

Leading the delegation was Para-Powerlifter Haruna Tahiru, a two-time African armwrestling champion, who carried the baton while other members waved and smiled to the crowd.

It was a joyous moment as the team danced their way through the ceremony to the sound of music, delighting spectators.

The athletes are expected to win medals for the country, with many determined to make a name for themselves.

Among those tipped to shine for Ghana in Glasgow are sprinter and team captain Joseph Paul Amoah, Ghana’s 100m record holder; rising star Saminu Abdul-Rasheed; para cyclist Botso Nkegbe; baton bearer Haruna Tahiru; and several other determined athletes across multiple disciplines.

The Ghanaian contingent includes competitors in Athletics, Para Athletics, Boxing, Cycling, Judo, Weightlifting, Swimming, Para Swimming, and Para Powerlifting. They enter the Games after months of intensive preparation, training camps, and qualification events in Ghana, Derby Arena in the UK, and Ireland.

The squad blends experienced campaigners with promising young athletes making their Commonwealth Games debut, striking a balance of experience, ambition, and fresh energy.

The 23rd Commonwealth Games are officially underway in Glasgow, running from July 23 to August 2, 2026. The event features around 3,000 athletes from 74 nations and territories competing for 215 gold medals across 10 core sports.
