Read Rev Dr Lawrence Tetteh's advice to President Mahama

Renowned international evangelist Rev Dr Lawrence Tetteh has offered words of encouragement to President John Dramani Mahama, urging him to use his time in office to build lasting friendships rather than create enemies.

Speaking at the annual wreath-laying ceremony at Asomdwee Park to mark the 14th anniversary of the late president Professor John Evans Atta Mills on July 24, 2026, he encouraged the president to remain focused, embrace forgiveness and uphold the power of prayer.

"Your Excellency, use your position now to make friends, not enemies. But some people made enemies, and when you left, they never had friends again. Today, we are all celebrating His Excellency John Evans Atta Mills because of the friendship he made with some of us. Use your position to make friends," Dr Tetteh stated.

He also cautioned President Mahama against comparing his journey to that of others, adding that every individual has a unique path and timing.

"Do not measure your life with another man's ruler. Some have gone ahead of you in fame, but they are behind you in peace. Some have gone ahead of you with money, but they are behind you in happiness. Some have gone ahead of you in education, but they are behind you in godliness. But everybody has a time, and personally, your time will come," he noted.

The renowned evangelist also shed light on the importance of prayer, praising President Mahama for introducing the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving.

"We should never underestimate the ultimate power of prayer. If there's anything among all the many good things you've done in the few months you've been in government that I'm very proud of, it is that you started the National Day of Prayer," Dr Tetteh said.

However, he appealed for the initiative to remain above partisan politics.

"I pray that we don't politicise it. I pray that it's not hijacked. I pray that the principle, the reason why you wanted the National Thanksgiving Service, stays in your heart so that it doesn't become human but remains very spiritual," Dr Tetteh noted.

Dr Tetteh also encouraged the president to lead with forgiveness and compassion, even towards those who may have wronged him.

"We should learn not to hurt the people who hurt us. Don't hurt the people who hurt you, and certainly also do not hurt the people who love us," he added.
