Former Member of Parliament for Afram Plains North, Betty Krosby Mensah, has applauded the Mahama-led government for evacuating Ghanaians from South Africa following recent xenophobic attacks targeting African migrants.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with GhanaWeb's Veronica Onuman on July 26, 2026, Krosby Mensah said she felt proud to be a Ghanaian because of the government's swift response to rescue citizens stranded in South Africa.

"I feel proud to be a Ghanaian at this time. Look at the swift intervention by the government to rescue Ghanaians from South Africa. The Mahama government has saved us from humiliation," she said.

She further stated that the government has consistently introduced interventions aimed at improving the lives of Ghanaians.

"I can cite the Ghana Medical Trust Fund as one of the interventions that has enabled Ghanaians from all walks of life to access quality healthcare across the country," she added.

Her remarks come as Ghana completes the evacuation of the final batch of its citizens from South Africa following tensions sparked by anti-migrant activists in the country.

A statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on July 25, 2026, said some evacuees are expected to arrive in Ghana on Sunday, July 26, 2026, while the remaining group will arrive on Monday, July 27, 2026.
