PHOTOS: Lumba's tomb finally unveiled after backlash over private East Legon burial

The family of late Ghanaian highlife legend Daddy Lumba has unveiled his tomb during a memorial ceremony held at his private residence in East Legon, Accra, to mark one year since his passing.

The event, held on Sunday, July 26, 2026, formed part of traditional rites commemorating the musician's death. Family members gathered to pay tribute to the late music icon and poured libation in his honour.

Daddy Lumba, born Charles Kojo Fosu, died on July 26, 2025, at the age of 60.

Also present at the ceremony was his second wife, Odo Broni, who was officially ushered out of widowhood after observing the customary one-year mourning period.

The traditional rite marks the end of a widow's mourning period under custom and signifies her formal reintegration into normal family and social life.

During the event, the family also announced the appointment of Daddy Lumba's cousin, Ebenezer Fosuh, as the immediate stand-in for the late musician in family matters.

The ceremony provided an opportunity for relatives, friends and loved ones to celebrate the life and legacy of one of Ghana's most celebrated highlife musicians, whose music continues to inspire generations of fans.

Background

The unveiling of Daddy Lumba's tomb comes months after the Office of the Gborbu Wulomo-Shitse, the Spiritual Overlord of the GaDangme people, summoned the musician's family head over reports that he had been buried at his private residence in East Legon.

In a letter dated March 10, 2026, the office directed Victor Kofi Owusu, also known as Abusua Panyin Tupac, to appear before Nuumo Borketey Laweh Tsuru, the Gborbu Wulomo, at the Nungua Palace on March 13, 2026.

The summons followed reports and public concerns surrounding the alleged private burial of the late musician at his East Legon residence.

According to the letter, the matter had generated concern among sections of the GaDangme community and required clarification in line with customary protocols.

"As the Family Head (Abusua Panyin) of the late Charles Kojo Fosu, your presence is required to provide the necessary explanation and engagement on the matter in accordance with customary protocols and to assist in addressing the concerns raised," the letter stated.
