Reforestation worker allegedly shot by illegal loggers at Abesewa Forest

A worker with a private reforestation firm has sustained serious gunshot injuries following an alleged attack by suspected illegal chainsaw operators in the Abesewa Forest in the Ahafo Ano South East District of the Ashanti Region.

According to a report by 3News.com on July 27, 2026, the incident occurred on Saturday, July 25, 2026.

The victim was part of a team from Next Door Farms, a company contracted by the Forestry Commission to undertake tree planting in the forest reserve.

According to sources, the team had entered the reserve to prevent suspected illegal loggers from destroying newly planted trees when they came under gunfire.

The injured worker was rushed to the Tepa Government Hospital, where he is receiving treatment for severe gunshot wounds.

Following the incident, security personnel reportedly arrested two suspects believed to be linked to the illegal logging group.

The suspects are currently in police custody at the Tepa Divisional Police Station while investigations continue.

Executives of Next Door Farms, Moses Oppong and Nana Gyamfi, confirmed the incident and called on law enforcement authorities to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.

They also urged security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend other members of the alleged illegal logging syndicate operating in the forest reserve.
