Why Captain Smart is trending after declaring NDC parliamentary bid

Broadcast journalist and aspiring National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Gomoa West, Blessed Godsbrain Smart, popularly known as Captain Smart, is trending on social media after an old video resurfaced showing him sharply criticising both the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The video resurfaced after Captain Smart publicly declared his intention to contest the Gomoa West parliamentary seat on the ticket of the NDC, prompting renewed debate over his past remarks about the two major political parties.

In the video sighted by GhanaWeb on July 27, 2026, Captain Smart is heard calling for both parties to be ‘wiped away’ and describing them as ‘useless groupings’ that have failed the country.

"Look, both the NDC and the NPP, we need to wipe them away. If we fail as people to wipe these useless people away, we will never ever survive. We will never ever succeed. We will never ever get to the destination we all yearn for.

"NDC is a useless grouping. NPP is a useless grouping. I keep telling you, no matter whoever has led any of these parties, I don't give a damn to anybody this morning," he indicated.

The resurfaced video has generated widespread reactions online, with many users questioning the apparent contrast between his previous criticism of the NDC and his recent decision to seek election on the party's ticket.
