NPP members storm Accra High Court to show solidarity with Wontumi

Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Sammi Awuku, along with several members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have arrived at the Accra High Court to show solidarity with the party’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.

The party members were present as proceedings continued in the GH¢14.3 million Exim Bank case involving Wontumi and other accused persons on July 27, 2026.

Wontumi is facing charges related to the alleged misuse of funds in the Exim Bank loan case, which is before the court.

His appearance comes after he was recently convicted by the Accra High Court in a separate case involving illegal mining activities at Samreboi in the Western Region.

In that case, the court found Wontumi guilty of charges linked to illegal mining and sentenced him to 20 years’ imprisonment, alongside a fine of 10,000 penalty units, equivalent to GH¢120,000.

He was also ordered to serve an additional three-year sentence in default of paying the fine.
