'You will be judged by problems you solve' – President Mahama tells UG graduates

President John Dramani Mahama has admonished University of Ghana graduate students to find solutions to societal problems in order to improve livelihoods.

He noted that the success of students from tertiary institutions is determined not merely by their credentials but by their ability to contribute to the betterment of institutions and communities.

Speaking at the recent congregation ceremony for graduate students at the UG Great Hall, he advised the graduates to be useful to the nation by making an impact wherever they find themselves.

“Society will judge your success not merely by the knowledge you possess but by the problems you solve with that knowledge, the institutions you strengthen, and the lives that you improve in your communities,” he said.

President Mahama further revealed that the committee established to examine the government's plan to restore the management of the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) to the University of Ghana has completed its work and submitted its report regarding the facility’s future.

“We remain committed to restoring the university’s stewardship of the medical centre,” he commented.

He also emphasized that financial circumstances should not deny others access to tertiary education. Under the No Fee Stress initiative, he said the government is working to support as many first-year students as possible to begin their university education.

“Education should never be determined by the size of one’s pocket, but by the strength of one’s knowledge and potential,” he noted.

The congregation ceremony saw graduates conferred with various academic degrees, including Master’s degrees, Master of Philosophy (MPhil) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees.

Among the graduates was Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, who earned a PhD in Museum and Heritage Studies.
