WAEC releases BECE results; over 600 cancellations, 2000 plus withheld

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the release of the provisional results of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

In a statement issued on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, the council indicated that candidates for the examination can check their results at their respective schools.

It also indicated that the results can be accessed online on its website.

“The West African Examinations Council wishes to inform its numerous publics that it has released provisional results of candidates who sat for the BECE for School Candidates, 2026. The Council will dispatch the results of school candidates to their respective schools through the Metropolitan/Municipal/District Directors of Education. The results are also available on the Council's official website at [www.waecgh.org](http://www.waecgh.org) for candidates who so desire to access them online,” part of the statement read.

WAEC also announced that hundreds of students had their results either cancelled or withheld after an investigation into examination malpractices.

It said that 105 candidates had their entire results cancelled, while 496 had the results of subjects cancelled.

Following the completion of investigations into a number of cases of irregularity detected during the conduct of the examination and marking of scripts, the 37th Meeting of the Final Awards and Examiners' Appointment Committee for the BECE, 2026, held on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, approved as follows:

Cancellation of Subject Results of 496 candidates;

Cancellation of Entire Results of 105 candidates;

Withholding of Subject Results of 119 candidates;

Withholding of Entire Results of 48 candidates,” the council said.

It added, “Meanwhile, the subject results of 2,722 candidates from 229 schools have been withheld for further scrutiny. The withheld results may be cancelled or released based on the outcome of investigations by August 31, 2026.”
