Outrage over Court of Appeal's acquittal of former MASLOC CEO

The acquittal and discharge of former MASLOC Chief Executive Officer, Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, by the Court of Appeal on Thursday, July 30, 2026, has triggered widespread reactions from Ghanaians on social media.

The appellate court ruled that the prosecution failed to prove the charges against Tamakloe-Attionu beyond reasonable doubt, setting aside her 10-year conviction and making her a free woman.

Reacting to the judgment, several Ghanaians, including investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni, expressed disappointment and questioned how the case ended in an acquittal.

Describing the ruling as troubling, Manasseh wrote that the decision was "shameless and scary."

“It's shameful and scary at the same time,” he wrote on Facebook moments after the judgment.

Others also questioned the basis for the court's decision, demanding an explanation from the judges on why Tamakloe-Attionu was acquitted and discharged.

“Pls on what basis is Mad. Sedinam Tamakloe discharged and acquitted? We want to know just for the cause of sound convo. Waiting!” another user wrote.

Some social media users also argued that the ruling could set a worrying precedent, claiming it may open the door for other convicted political figures, including Chairman Wontumi, to seek similar outcomes through the appeal process.

Tamakloe-Attionu’s lawyers had argued in their application that charged that were used to prosecute her were defective and failed to provide sufficient details about the offences she was accused of committing.

The Attorney General must appeal this acquittal and discharge.

I don't know why nearly an hour since the decision, we haven't heard from them.
